A URL shortener turns a long, unwieldy web address into a short link that is easier to share and—just as importantly—possible to measure. MiniLy does this for any valid URL, then records who clicks it. The honest version: the shortening itself is a commodity. Dozens of tools do it, and the bare act of producing a shorter string is not where the value lives.
Where it gets useful is what happens after the link is created: every click is logged with country, device, browser, OS, and referrer, so a link becomes a small, ongoing source of data instead of a fire-and-forget string. That is the part worth paying attention to.
MiniLy is built and hosted in the EU. The free plan gives you 5 short links for life—not a trial, not 5 per month—plus unlimited QR codes, password protection, and a global analytics overview. That generosity has a clear edge: the 5-link cap is the line where the product asks you to pay.
The flow is deliberately short: paste a long URL, optionally set a custom alias (the part after the slash, e.g. minily.org/portfolio), and create the link. From then on, every visit passes through MiniLy, which logs the click and instantly redirects the visitor to your destination. The redirect is transparent to the person clicking.
You can try the shortener on the homepage without an account, but signing up (free) is what lets you save links, see analytics, and set passwords.
Short, trackable links earn their place anywhere a raw URL would look messy or where you need to know whether the link actually worked:
Commercial use is allowed at no extra fee, provided destinations comply with the terms of service.
Being straight about the boundaries: the Free plan caps you at 5 links total, measured by a lifetime counter. Deleting a link does not free a slot—once you have created 5, you need Pro (5 EUR/month) to make more. Existing links keep working and tracking regardless.
MiniLy also does not offer some things you may expect from larger platforms: there is no public API for programmatic link creation, no white-label option to remove MiniLy branding from the service, and no deep-link or mobile attribution / multi-touch features. Free-tier analytics are a global overview only—per-link and per-tag breakdowns, full date ranges, and traffic-source detail require Pro. If your workflow depends on API access or attribution modeling, MiniLy is not the right fit today.
